(Lulit Taka)
Priest of Oshun
Ayokunle was initiated into the mysteries of Oshun in 1999 and has been a member of Ile Orunmila Oshun since 1993.
Ayokunle sold her first painting when she was nine years old over thirty years ago. As far as she can remember she has been making art. She has always had a special fascination with art and buildings associated with religious and spiritual expression. In fact, for three years she had the opportunity to have a very close relationship with some of Italy’s religious art treasures when she worked as an art restorer. She helped to restore paintings up to 500 years old including the frescos in the Dome in Perugia and oil and tempera paintings by Italian masters throughout central Italy.
Ayokunle has taken her experience as an art restorer, her training as an artist and her devotion to spirit and has combined these in her creation of Sacred Objects for use in rituals and spiritual practice. These objects include consecrated vessels for the storage of herbs, water, liquor and other items for use in ritual, as well as altar fabric and staffs.
For the last nineteen years Ayokunle has received training and has been practicing architecture. She graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a degree in architecture in 1993 and has worked in several San Francisco Bay Area architecture firms. She has focused her work on buildings for low-income and other vulnerable populations and on public buildings. Currently Ayokunle is a project manager at a successful San Francisco full service architectural firm, where she a running a number of project throughout California. She works in all phases of design including programming, design, preparation of construction drawings and specifications, and construction administration. She has worked on over twenty-five buildings including schools, housing for low-income families and low-income seniors, assisted living facilities and a homeless shelter.
Ayokunle combines her training as an architect and artist with her spirituality in a number of ways:
Divination: Ayokunle offers life readings using the ancient Merindinlogun oracle.
Altar Design: Ayokunle can design altars and can facilitate the process of constructing altars for the Ancestors and to Orisha as well as consecrating personal shrines. She can apply the design process she has learned in her architectural practice to help you clarify your vision for your altar and to focus on identifying the best way to construct the altar to reflect that vision.
Spiritually guided Environmental Design: A holistic approach to architectural design that integrates community, spirit and environment. Ayokunle believes that personal, community and work environments can either feed or deplete our activities and our spirit. Her approach is to include the spiritual and social in the design process.
Space Cleansing: Spiritual cleansing of homes and places of business.
General cleansings: when moving into a new space and special cleansings with the guidence of divination to disperse problem energies.
Space Balancing: For existing spaces Ayokunle can help identify problems as well as good aspects of a space. She can then address the problems and enhance the good aspects to create balance and promote harmony through the use of color, plants and furniture.
